The celebration that unites and defines us

Once again, Badajoz is preparing to experience its largest and most eagerly awaited celebration. Carnival is a fixture in everyone’s calendar: a shared occasion that brings us together and has become one of the great symbols of our city’s identity, carrying the name of Badajoz far beyond our borders.

It is the city’s great celebration, thanks to its participatory and popular nature. Thousands of people take to the streets: an entire city involved, enjoying together a festivity that stands out for its joy, creativity, and atmosphere. A Carnival lived to the fullest—with family, with friends, and with all those who visit us during these days.

To all our visitors, I extend a warm welcome and encourage you to enjoy Badajoz—its heritage, its gastronomy, its streets, and, above all, its people. And to the people of Badajoz and to all Extremadurans, I invite you to take part in a celebration of and for everyone, with a programme of activities designed for all audiences.

The Badajoz Carnival cannot be understood without its murgas, comparsas, artefactos, and entertainment groups; without the friends who prepare their costumes with enthusiasm, the children who experience it with special excitement, and those who even include their pets in the celebration.

Behind every performance and every parade there are months of work, rehearsals, preparation, and effort.

The City Council also makes an organisational, logistical, and human effort to ensure that everything runs smoothly. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the work of the Department of Fairs and Festivities and the organising team, as well as the essential service provided by Cleaning staff, the Local Police, Civil Protection, Street Lighting teams, and all the services and workers who, throughout these days, give their very best to make this celebration a success.

Thank you to everyone who makes this Carnival possible, whether by participating individually or as part of a group. My most sincere congratulations for ensuring that, year after year, the Badajoz Carnival continues to grow—in participation, in quality, and in recognition.

Thank you for giving your time and your enthusiasm, because that is what makes our Carnival a truly unique celebration.

I invite you to enjoy, to dress up, and to experience these days to the fullest. Because the best Carnival is the one that is felt and remembered. And that, without a doubt, is the Badajoz Carnival.

Ignacio Gragera.
